About

What we cover

Output Weekly is an independent publication for people who make things with generative AI: characters, short videos, artwork and audio. We cover the whole pipeline, from the platform and plan you pick to the edit, the voice and the finished post.

Most of what we publish is ranked roundups and how-tos. A roundup answers one question, like which tool keeps a character consistent from image to video, and puts the options in order. A how-to walks through one job from start to finish.

How we review

Each roundup is ranked on one job, the one in the headline. A tool with 40 features that can’t keep a face the same across two shots loses to a tool with four features that can.

We start with the output and whether it holds up for that job. Then we read the plan pages: caps on resolution, clip length and daily use change the real price a lot, so we work out what an image or a clip costs once those limits are counted. Last comes setup (installs, GPUs, sign-up walls), because a tool you can’t get running isn’t much use.

Prices and plans change often. We check them against each vendor’s own pricing pages when we write a piece and put the date on every update. When something we wrote stops being true, we fix it.

Some sections cover tools with looser content rules than mainstream apps. We describe each tool’s content policy as a fact about the product, and we only cover tools that require users to be adults and ban content involving real people without consent.

The writers

Six of us write for Output Weekly. Each writer has a beat, though we all pitch in on roundups that cross over.

Marcus Hale

Editor. Marcus runs the desk, sets the ranking criteria for each roundup and edits every piece before it goes up.

Ines Cardoso

Characters and images. Ines writes about character design, consistent characters and image tools, with a soft spot for comic and anime styles.

Tobias Wren

Video and motion. Tobias covers video generators, image-to-video and lipsync, and how the pieces fit together into a finished clip.

Danielle Kerr

Voice and audio. Danielle writes about voice generation, music tools and the audio side of video projects.

Sam Whitlock

Platforms, plans and gear. Sam compares plans, credit systems and limits; he also covers the hardware creators actually use.

Ravi Menon

News. Ravi tracks model releases, shutdowns and pricing changes across the AI creative tools we cover.
