6 best uncensored AI image generators in 2026

Key takeaways
Mage ranks first for a browser tool with loose rules. Its $10 Basic plan runs SDXL, Pony, and Illustrious checkpoints unlimited, with LoRAs from its catalog.
Running Stable Diffusion checkpoints yourself in ComfyUI or Forge is the only setup with no host filter. The model's license still applies, and SDXL's license bars exploiting minors and breaking the law.
Civitai moved all NSFW content and its full generator to civitai.red in April 2026. Buzz there is bought with crypto, and its terms ban real people's likenesses in any context.
NovelAI and Promptchan are both for adults only. NovelAI is built around anime, and Promptchan is an adult platform that scans prompts and outputs for banned categories.
Grok has what xAI calls a "spicy mode," but its usage policy bans nudifying real people or depicting anyone's likeness in a pornographic manner.
Which AI image generators are uncensored?
For a hosted tool, Mage sits at the permissive end and adds saved Characters and community checkpoints. For no moderation at all, run an open Stable Diffusion checkpoint on your own graphics card.
"Uncensored" is a loose label, and only one setup here is uncensored in the literal sense. Every company draws its own lines, and they don't match. One is permissive within stated limits, another allows explicit images and bans real faces outright, and a third has no rules of its own, leaving the model license and the law.
So the ranking below rests on what each tool's own terms, license, or help pages say it allows, then on model choice, LoRA support, and cost. Where a policy is quoted, the wording is the company's.
How the six compare
Tool | Where it runs | Content stance, per its own policy | Starting cost |
|---|---|---|---|
Mage | Browser | Permissive | 300 free Gems once, then $10/mo unlimited |
Stable Diffusion in ComfyUI or Forge | Your PC | No host filter, but model license and law apply | Free with your own GPU |
Civitai (civitai.red) | Browser | NSFW allowed on Red | Buzz, bought with crypto on Red |
NovelAI | Browser | Adults only, with Full and Curated models | $10/mo |
Promptchan | Browser | Adult platform, 18+ | Free version, plus paid plans |
Grok Imagine | App and API | Spicy mode, but real-person nudity banned | API at $0.04 an image |
1. Mage: best overall for permissive image generation
Mage is a browser platform that runs its own image models next to a long list of open ones. Its content rules describe "creative freedom within clear, lawful boundaries," which puts it at the permissive end of hosted services.
Strengths: The $10 Basic plan runs SDXL, Flux 2, Z-Image, Chroma, and the Pony and Illustrious checkpoint families unlimited, with LoRAs from Mage's catalog (one at a time on Basic, two on Pro). Pro at $30 adds unlimited Mango 3, Mage's flagship image model and a Mage exclusive. Characters save a face from one reference image, and Mango 3 takes up to 10 references. Exports never carry a watermark.
Limits: GPT Image 2, Grok Image, and Nano Banana 2 keep their labs' filters on Mage.
Best for: Recurring characters and community checkpoints, with no install.
2. Stable Diffusion in ComfyUI or Forge: best for no host filter
Running open checkpoints on your own computer is the only route here where no company sees your prompts. ComfyUI is free under GPL-3.0 and Forge under AGPL-3.0, and neither one puts a moderator between you and the model.
Strengths: SDXL fine-tunes, Pony and Illustrious among them, download free from Civitai and Hugging Face, and you can stack LoRAs, ControlNet, and inpainting however you like. Our Pony vs. Illustrious vs. SDXL guide covers how the three differ, and SDXL-class models run on an 8GB card, per our VRAM guide.
Limits: The license travels with the file. SDXL's CreativeML Open RAIL++-M license has no clause on sexual content, but it bars using the model to exploit or harm minors "in any way," to break the law, or to harass others. You also manage model files, custom nodes, and updates yourself.
Best for: People with a capable graphics card who want full control and nothing leaving the machine.
3. Civitai (civitai.red): best for community models online
Civitai split into two sites in April 2026. Civitai.com became the SFW site, and civitai.red, which Civitai calls the "freedom-first front door," took all NSFW content, the full model catalog, and the full generator.
Strengths: You generate with the same checkpoints and LoRAs you'd download for a local setup, so a Pony or Illustrious workflow carries straight over. One account and one gallery cover both sites.
Limits: Civitai says it has "lost every mainstream payment rail except crypto," so Buzz on Red is bought with crypto. Earned Blue Buzz pays for NSFW generation only with a membership, sold on civitai.com. Red's terms ban content based on any real person's likeness "in any context," photorealistic minors in any context, incest, bestiality, and graphic injuries, and sexualized images must carry their generation metadata, the prompt at minimum.
Best for: Adult work built on community models, if paying in crypto doesn't bother you.
4. NovelAI: best for anime and illustration
NovelAI, from Anlatan, generates anime-style images and stories on its own models. The current image model, NovelAI Diffusion V5, comes in two versions. Its model docs say V5 Full uses "a more comprehensive, albeit less curated, dataset," and suggest V5 Curated if you'd rather not generate sensitive images by accident.
Strengths: V5 supports up to 22 distinct characters in one image and can lay out a full paneled comic page. NovelAI's FAQ says none of your generations are stored, so an image exists only until you download it or leave the page. Plans cost $10, $15, and $25 a month.
Limits: There's no free tier beyond a trial. On the $25 Opus plan, V5 runs under a usage allowance that refills over time, though older models stay unlimited. Its Terms of Service require users to be 18 and deal mostly with accounts and billing, so the law where you live does most of the limiting. The output is anime first, and its photographic tag is meant for images without people.
Best for: Anime characters and comic pages from a model trained for them.
5. Promptchan: best for an adult-first platform
Promptchan is an image, video, and chat site run by VisionAI Labs Limited in Dublin. Its terms require users to be at least 18, and they say its characters "are intended to be over the age of 18."
Strengths: It's built for adult users, so you aren't working around a filter designed for a mainstream audience. There's a free version, and subscriptions add features on top.
Limits: The terms ban incest "whether real or fictional," bestiality, "snuff" violence, and "any depiction or impersonation of celebrities, public figures, or private individuals without consent." A content moderation policy updated October 29, 2026, says AI systems scan prompts, outputs, and uploads, and may block a generation before you see it.
Best for: Explicit images of fictional characters, all in one place.
6. Grok Imagine: best for an app you already have
xAI's image generator is part of the Grok apps and API. In January 2026, California's attorney general said xAI built its image models to include what the company calls a "spicy mode," which generates "explicit content."
Strengths: It's inside an app many people already use. Through the API, Grok Imagine Image 2.0 makes 1K and 2K images and edits from up to five reference images, at $0.04 an image.
Limits: Its Acceptable Use Policy, effective August 14, 2026, bans "Undressing or nudifying real persons," "Depicting likenesses of persons in a pornographic manner," and sexualizing children. California sent xAI a cease-and-desist letter on January 16, 2026.
Best for: Quick fictional images without opening a new account.
The lines every tool still draws
Minors are off-limits. Mage bans sexual content involving minors, "real or generated." Civitai bans photorealistic minors in any context and sexual content with minors in any style, including anime. Promptchan bans characters presented as minors, and xAI bans sexualizing children. Even locally, SDXL's license forbids using the model to exploit minors.
Real people need consent, or are banned outright. Mage doesn't allow a recognizable real person without consent, and that includes building a Character from their photo. Civitai bans real likenesses entirely, Promptchan bans depicting anyone without consent, and xAI bans nudifying real people.
A local setup has no company enforcing any of this, but the law still does. Child sexual abuse material and intimate images made without consent are illegal in many countries whether a server or your own graphics card produced them, and you answer for what you make.
Hosted or local?
A hosted service is faster to start and handles the hardware, but you're working inside someone's terms, and those terms change. Civitai moved its NSFW content to a new domain with about a week's notice in April. A local install never changes its rules on you, but it costs a graphics card, disk space, and setup time.
The two also combine well. A browser tool handles quick drafts and recurring characters, and a local setup takes over when a project needs one specific checkpoint or LoRA stack. If you're moving into video next, our guide to AI video generators for NSFW content covers the same policy questions for clips.
Uncensored AI image generator FAQ
What is the best uncensored AI image generator?
Mage is the first pick for most people, because it's permissive by hosted standards, runs community checkpoints unlimited from $10 a month, and keeps faces consistent with saved Characters. Its Terms prohibit pornographic content, though. For no host filter at all, run an open Stable Diffusion checkpoint in ComfyUI or Forge.
Is there a free uncensored AI image generator?
Running Stable Diffusion locally is free if you already own a suitable graphics card. Online, Mage gives 300 Gems once at sign-up, and they expire after 90 days. Promptchan has a free version, and Civitai's earned Blue Buzz covers NSFW generation on Red only for members.
Can I use LoRAs with uncensored image generators?
Yes, on the open-model tools. A local setup takes any LoRA you download, Civitai runs its whole catalog on Red, and Mage stacks LoRAs on SDXL, Pony, Illustrious, and several other open models. Our LoRA explainer covers how they work and why a LoRA only loads on the model family it was trained for.
Is a local Stable Diffusion setup completely unrestricted?
Nobody reviews your prompts, but two things still apply. The model's license comes with the file, and SDXL's bans using it to harm minors or break the law. The law where you live applies whatever the license says.
Can I generate images of a real person?
Not without their consent, and on some tools not at all. Mage requires consent, Civitai bans real likenesses in any context, and xAI bans nudifying real people. Stick to original characters or your own face.
